Wandering the Sentence: a 5 week generative writing workshop | July - August
Writing is a process for thinking, much like wandering through a quiet wooded path in the summertime. What have we planted? What weeds grow against or in opposition to our plans? How do we cultivate reverence for what is undisturbed and wild? Meandering reveals what is hidden to us. Walking through the chaos of a city is our ancient forest, movement through this space unveils memory, migration, displacement, decay, belonging, and creation. Michel De Certeau writes, “places are fragmentary and inward-turning histories, pasts that others are not allowed to read, accumulated times that can be unfolded but like stories held in reserve, remaining in an enigmatic state, symbolizations encysted in the pain or pleasure of the body.” Alongside Certeau, we will read work from John Berger, Renee Gladman, Jane Allison, Jackie Wang, and others who have trodden this unplanned path before us. Virtual workshop runs Sundays, July 20th to August 17th. In-person workshop runs Tuesdays, July 15th to August 12th. MORE INFO & REGISTRATION HERE.
