The Whole Utopianotes Catalog is a modest experiment in resource-sharing. You’ll find sizable a monthly round-up of opportunities (grants, fellowships, residencies, calls for submission, jobs, and gigs), classifieds and other useful things. It doubles as the author newsletter for me, Adrian Shirk.
The name of the ‘catalog’ is a nod to the legendary Whole Earth Catalog as well as to a critical term that emerged while I was writing Heaven is a Place on Earth: Searching for an American Utopia: utopianotes (n): an ongoing, participatory record of things that, according to the laws of capital and conquest, shouldn’t have been able to happen or exist, but did anyway.
PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS
The Whole Utopianotes Catalog is available for FREE. A paid subscription supports its continuation and accessibility, and it also comes with additional benefits: a 15% discount on all books ordered directly through me, as well as FREE 30 min. of consultation a year (for $5/month) to assist you with an application you’re putting together, or (for VIP subscribers) FREE 60 mins. of consultation a year on any writing, manuscript development, artistic, professional, or application related needs.
ABOUT ADRIAN SHIRK
I’m an author, agent, teacher, and theatre artist. I have two books of creative nonfiction, And Your Daughters Shall Prophesy (women mystics and spiritual celebrities) and Heaven is a Place on Earth (odyssey through utopian experiments), both from Counterpoint Press. I work as a literary agent on select projects at Driftless, and I’m an ensemble member of theater company The Party. During my decade of teaching in the BFA Creative Writing Program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, I’ve served as an advisor and mentor to dozens of emerging writers and artists. I live in the Catskills, at the experimental arts hub The Mutual Aid Society.

House-sitting in Legendary Lily Dale, NY
From Tiffany Hopkins: I'm looking for a person or two to stay at my cottage with my dog and cat in Lily Dale, NY (the world's largest community of Spiritualists) from 3/5-3/18 (give or take a few days). I just finished renovating the cottage, which has been passed down through women in my family since the early 1900s, so it's very fresh and has all the modern conveniences, like solar, a car charger, a dishwasher, and everything in between. I look for house and pet sitters pretty often and am working on developing it into a more formal residency through my organization Normalize Talking To The Dead (normalizetalkingtothedead.com), but for now the most important thing is finding someone who loves dogs and cats and wants to be in Lily Dale in Winter. Please visit this info page for my house and send me an email if you're interested, piff@nobox.us
